Battle of the Vice Presidential Candidates

Vice Presidential Candidates

How Mike Pence and Tim Kaine stack up against each other

“vice President candidates”, by Beverley Jane Russell – Op-ed contributor Trumpville Report

Just how do the vice Presidential candidates stack up against each other? What kind of men are they? Could they take over as President if need be? Many Americans are in the dark on these two Vice President Candidates. Beverley Jane Russell lays out their differences is this excellent Trumpville Report Op-ed.

Democrat Tim Kaine

Timothy Michael “Tim” Kaine (born February 26, 1958) is an American attorney and politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Virginia. A member of the Democratic Party, Kaine was elected to the Senate in 2012 and is the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for Vice President of the United States in the 2016 election.

Tim Kaine gave a brief interview , October 24, 2014 ,where he called on Virginia legislators to work on ethics reform, and in doing so lamented the three ‘high profile challenges’ in recent years Virginia has faced on ethics, Phil Hamilton, Bob McDonnell, and the ongoing Phil Puckett saga. In doing so, he has casually tossed colleague Mark Warner under the bus, who’s involvement in the Puckett saga was stupidity bordering on voting for $4.7 trillion in new spending through the federal government.

But first, Kaine remarking on any ethics scandal is laughable on its face. Given the new FBI precedent what constitutes bribery and corruption, Tim Kaine is still well within the statute of limitations for his own bribery and corruption trial.

Lest we ever forget:

In 2005, when Tim Kaine was Lt. Governor, he was offered a vacation on the island of Mustique by a member of the Virginia Commission on Higher Education, and Kaine somehow acquired the wisdom after taking the $18,000 gift of this vacation to re-appoint the gift giver to the Board once he became Governor.

That same year, Governor Kaine accepted $3,500 in clothing gifts from Stuart C. Siegel, of S&K fame, to go with $2,000 of clothing Siegal gave him two years earlier. As Governor, Tim Kaine, in a moment of enlightenment, appointed Siegel to the Virginia Racing Commission.

McDonnell was indicted for less (gifts with no official government action taken in return) so for Kaine to remark in public on other scandals is 1) stupid 2) hypocritical 3) something his lawyer should tell him to avoid in the future.

The other noteworthy development would be Kaine’s discarding of Mark Warner (that sound you hear would be the bus hitting Warner again and again). Kaine called for a “dramatic change in Virginia officials”, something that sounds very very close to ‘vote the bums out of office.’

With two weeks to go, Ed Gillespie investing nearly half a million of his own money (proudly) in the race and Mark Warner avoiding the press at literally every public outing, Tim Kaine reminds Virginia voters to throw Mark Warner (and himself) out of office.

November 4th, you’ll be able to do just that.

He stated.

Virginia released 145,000 of Tim Kaine’s emails as governor. They reveal why he’s the safe and smart VP choice for Hillary Clinton. The former Virginia governor’s $160,000 in disclosures could be a political liability for Clinton’s leading VP pick.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine took advantage of the state’s lax gift laws to receive an $18,000 Caribbean vacation, $5,500 in clothes and a trip to watch George Mason University play in the NCAA basketball Final Four during his years as lieutenant governor and governor, according to disclosures he filed.

Now as VP pick , Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Kaine reported more than $160,000 in gifts from 2001 to 2009, mostly for travel to and from political events and conferences, according to disclosures compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project. The givers included political supporters, a drug company that soon after bought a facility in Virginia, and Dominion, the state’s biggest provider of electricity.

While legal under Virginia’s unusually permissive ethics rules, the gifts could become attack-ad fodder after similar presents led to corruption charges for Gov. Bob McDonnell, whose conviction the Supreme Court overturned . Republicans could also use the records to portray Kaine as part of the self-dealing establishment in a cycle animated by hostility toward the political class.

Virginia’s standards are widely perceived as too permissive, especially in the wake of the McDonnell case. And even the appearance of lower standards could become an issue in the national spotlight.

“The danger here is that there’s already a narrative on Hillary Clinton: It’s crooked cronyism, and any pick or any other action that drives that narrative is going to be bad for her,” said Matt Moon, a former Republican National Committee deputy research director, communications director for the 2014 reelection campaign of Governor Rick Scott (R-Fla.), and now executive vice president of opposition research consulting firm Delve. “If you’re on the Clinton campaign side, you want to look at potential vulnerabilities in how a VP pick would drive an opposition narrative.”

Kaine has acknowledged the defects with his state’s policies, especially compared with the federal restrictions he now faces as senator. “With no limit on the amount of such gifts and with the exceptions for friends and family so broad, Virginia’s system is all but guaranteed to create problems,” he wrote in a 2013 Washington Post op-ed. “The benefits of the federal rule are obvious. I regret that I didn’t propose adopting it when I was governor.”

Kaine with the acceptance of $5,500 worth of clothes in 2003 and 2005 from Stuart C. Siegel, a close friend and campaign booster who was then chairman of a Virginia-based discount menswear company. The disclosure also lists a baccarat crystal vase, valued at $0. Siegel didn’t answer a request for comment through a foundation of which he’s a board member.

Most of the gifts came in the form of travel to conferences or campaign events. President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign gave Kaine $45,000 for airfare and lodging. Kaine’s own leadership committee, Moving Virginia Forward, footed $20,000 of travel expenses. The Democratic Party of Virginia paid almost $11,000.

Richmond-based power company Dominion gave Kaine $2,000 for travel to meetings of the Democratic Governors Association and Southern Governors Association and to watch George Mason University play in the NCAA Final Four in 2006. Kaine rode on Dominion’s jet because he missed the commercial flight he booked to attend a state legislator’s funeral. A regulated utility, Dominion lobbies the state on energy policy.

Teva Pharmaceuticals gave Kaine $12,000 for travel to the August 2006 Democratic Governors Association meeting in Aspen. The Israeli drug company lobbied the state government and later bought a facility in Forest, Virginia. BET co-founder Sheila C. Johnson treated him to $4,250 for two dinners, travel to a charity benefit and a trip to Denver. ADR Software CEO E. Scott Kasprowicz, a conservationist and an environmental advocate, paid $3,000 for travel to political and charity galas.

Crooked Hillary paired with corrupt Kaine is a disaster for America !

Republican “Mike” Pence

Michael Richard “Mike” Pence (born June 7, 1959) is an American politician and attorney who has been serving as the 50th Governor of Indiana since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he previously represented Indiana’s 2nd congressional district and Indiana’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013 and served as Chairman of the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011 . Pence is a conservative and a supporter of the Tea Party movement.

On July 15, 2016, Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he had selected Pence as his running mate in the 2016 presidential election.

Here are 8 things you should know about the man behind the wheel of Indiana’s highest office.

  1. Pence was elected to Congress in 2000. He earned a sixth term in November of 2010. As a congressman, he was elected unanimously by House Republicans to serve as House Republican Conference chairman.

  2. During the 109th Congress, Pence served as chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, the largest caucus in the House of Representatives. Under his leadership, membership grew to 110. The group has been the leading voice for advancing conservative ideals and economic issues in Congress since the mid-1980s.

  3. Pence sat on the House Judiciary Committee as the vice chairman of the subcommittee on the Constitution and on the Foreign Affairs Committee as vice chairman on the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia.

  4. In 2010, Pence was named one of “The 25 Hardest-Working Lawmakers” by The Hill.

  5. In 2012, Pence was elected the 50th governor of the state of Indiana.

  6. The Washington Post described Pence as “A New Face on Conservatism” who “delivered conservative opinions with the even tones and polite demeanor of his Midwest upbringing.”

  7. Pence loves his country, but not necessarily its leaders. “There’s a lot wrong with our national government, but there’s not a lot wrong with our nation,” Pence said in a December 2014 interview with The Washington Post. “The people of this country are every bit as strong, as caring, as patriotic, as generous, as hard-working as they’ve ever been. … We’ve just got to have a government as good as our people.”

  8. Since Pence took office in 2013, he has achieved Indiana’s largest state tax cut in history while also lowering the business personal property tax and corporate income tax. Since taking office, Pence has seen Indiana’s unemployment rate drop to 5.8 percent from 7.9 percent, while employment has risen by 120,000 jobs.
